Before your treatment

Shiatsu and Chi Nei Tsang are given fully clothed, so please wear something loose and comfortable.  Tracksuits, yoga wear and loose cotton clothes are all suitable. Jeans, skirts, suits and bulky clothes are best avoided as they can restrict treatment options and movements. If possible, please avoid wearing make-up, perfume or aftershave.

Meridian Massage is given on the skin and includes massage for the face, so please avoid wearing make-up. To enjoy the full aroma-therapeutic benefits of the essential oil blends it’s best to avoid using perfume or aftershave.

It is best to avoid eating for an hour before your treatment.

When scheduling your treatment try to give yourself time to rest afterwards and avoid strenuous activity on the same day.

Consultation and treatment

Before the hands-on part of the treatment there is a consultation which will take around 15 minutes. This gives me an understanding of your general health and of you as a whole person, which helps me to direct the treatment. Each treatment is unique, responding to your needs on the day.

Shiatsu is given lying on a comfortable treatment mat, supporting your whole body while providing space for movement. Chi Nei Tsang is usually given in the same way, but can be given on a massage table if you prefer. Meridian Massage is given on a wide massage table.

During a treatment people often experience deep relaxation. This is sometimes felt as a meditative state when the mind becomes quiet and stress melts away. You don’t need to ‘do’ anything during your treatment. I will ask you to let me know how certain points feel, and how much pressure you would like. Sensitivity varies from one person to the next so pressure is given to your own needs and preference.

After your treatment

Continue to treat yourself well!

After your treatment your body will continue to respond and find its own balance so it helps to be aware of how you feel over the course of the day.

Drinking plenty of water after your treatment will help the body eliminate toxins.

Be gentle with yourself. Strenuous exercise is not recommended on the same day as a bodywork treatment.

Most often after a treatment you will continue to feel relaxed, or you may feel more energised. On occasion symptoms may temporarily increase. If the body is releasing toxins you may find you need to urinate more frequently, or have a runny nose or perspiration. You may notice a difference in the quality of your sleep.

Any temporary symptoms are often the result of the body responding to treatment and they should pass as your body restores its balance.
